RELOADED ROOTS
Encouraging reflections upon human relationships with nature and technology.
The crucial insight I wish to communicate is that our understanding of what is “natural” is inevitably shaped by cultural processes. Often, arguments advocating for certain actions as “natural” or discouraging others as “unnatural” stem from diverse cultural perspectives, intending to guide individuals in accordance with societal norms. It’s important to recognise that anything feasible aligns with the inherent laws of nature, irrespective of its moral value.
GUILTY PLEASURES
Collaboration with Nicole Alonso.
We had a lot of fun anonymously collecting people’s darkest and most secret guilty pleasures and then plastering them inside the immersive mouth structure walls we then re-recorded the answers in an ASMR style audio and played it inside the mouth with red lighting. By lying on the tongue and placing their head inside the mouth, the viewer is enveloped in an intimate audio-visual experience. Guilty pleasures can be deemed as something to be ashamed of, a part of one’s personality that others may judge them for. By discussing these pleasures, individuals can create a strong bonding experience and alleviate guilt by finding joy in the fact that others share their pleasures. Our goal, to create a space where people can relate to others and feel comfortable sharing their own pleasures without fear of judgment. This represents the nowness of residual shame from society and religion, aiming to create a more accepting and open society. We hope to convey a sense of unity and shared humanity.
